Massage involves working and acting on the body with pressure – structured, unstructured, stationary, or moving – tension, motion, or vibration, done manually or with mechanical aids. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as lymphatic vessels, or organs of the gastrointestinal system. Massage can be applied with the hands, fingers, elbows, knees, forearm, and feet. There are over eighty different recognized massage modalities. The most cited reasons for introducing massage as therapy have been client demand and perceived clinical effectiveness.
At Wei’s Nature Health Clinic, massage therapy is used to treat a variety of muscular conditions through various forms of soft tissue manipulation and joint mobilization. Many people seek massage therapy after injury or surgery or to treat chronic conditions, such as low back pain, arthritis, chronic pain and muscular tension headaches.
Massage therapy not only promotes relaxation and relieves muscle tension and pain, it can also improve blood flow, relieve pressure on nerves, and restore normal joint movement.
Prior to your assessment, you will meet with the Massage Therapist to complete a confidential Health History Form. Your assessment will include, but may not be limited to, range of motion and special testing, depending on your primary concern(s).
